Colossus | There has been some interesting things developing at Shapeways: 1/400 LUT Levels 3-8 (Launch Umbilical Tower) NASA. The shop also has an 1/400 MLP and crawler for the shuttle and Saturn V. You might also be interested in Alternate Visions. |
mode1charlie | Interesting. I look forward to seeing how this project develops. It would definitely fill an empty niche in the market. |
Colossus | I've just posted a 1/72 and 1/144 Mars Excursion Module on Shapeways. They're a bit pricey, but I hope worth it. |
Colossus | Pictures of the actual model have been added. Thanks for looking! |
Colossus | A 1:400 N-1 and a few other Russian/Soviet rockets are available in my Shapeways store. Thanks for looking! |
David C | Good work. Any chance of a 1/144 scale Vostok and N-1? I don't do metric scales. |
apolloprojeckt | Great!!! |

I'll think about it. I've tended to shy away from areas where other manufacturers are already producing product at that scale. I believe RealSpace Models has a 1/144 scale N-1. First, it will be pretty expensive, second, I could certainly enlarge the models, but they are really optimized for detail at the smaller scales. You certainly won't have Bandai Saturn V levels of detail if I enlarge my model. Thanks for looking! |
David C | Ah, good point. |
Norman.King | Not knowing anything about 3D printing can you explain the different material options available. I'd want the best finish for detail painting. |
apolloprojeckt | That is high detail frost, but then you can dive deep into your wallet. |
Tad_N | How about a pair of 1/24 Gemini Titan Engines? None exist... |

I thought that had a rough surface texture? Wouldn't a smooth surface finish be better for painting? |
apolloprojeckt | Colossus, maybe you can look also in your Shapeways mail box. |
Colossus | I did and I thought I replied to your question, but I might not have understood you clearly. Thanks for looking! |

I'll take a look, but modeling something like that will take a lot of time even in a software program. quote: Originally posted by Norman.King: Not knowing anything about 3D printing can you explain the different material options available.
The information offered on the Shapeways site and forums is pretty good in that regard. You might get a more detailed and definitive response if you ask there. I've only generated prints in WSF and Detail materials and not painted them so my experience is somewhat limited. WSF has a definite texture to it, but it conveys an acceptable level of detail depending on the model. The detail materials are probably a better bet from a finish standpoint, but they are pricier. |
StarChild | Just to inform you that a great detailed 1/144 lunar rover and astronauts set is available on Shapeways. I have just got two of them... my 1/144 Saturn LUT needs these beautiful embarking astronauts. |
Daugherty54 | Is there anyway to "package" the parts for a 1/24 or 1/32 Lunar Module from the Shapeways catalog? I am really looking forward to that and the large scale rover. Hopefully both of these can be sold as a package. Editor's note: Threads merged. |
Colossus | You might just ask the seller if he'll put together a package for you. If it's not too much trouble combining the files, it shouldn't be a problem. I've done rescaling on request on a few occasions. |
NASA Glenn | Can anyone help with using Shapeways to make model parts? I have drafted something in SketchUp but now I think it needs tweaked and configured and uploaded and I am just lost. |

If you look at his website it has the instructions for what parts to get for what scales/missions. He's done a good job separating these and from my experience I don't know how a "package" could be done, but it sure would be handy, especially when trying to figure out the cost... |
Lunokhod 2 | A package would be nice but difficult to do. The first reason being that all parts are not available yet and the second that considering all variations between G, H and J missions I would need to compile so many packages. An other reason is also that this would not necessarily reduce the price as this depends on the volume of matter. What I will try to do for all sections of the built is a table to list all parts needed for all specific configuration such as here. |
